Infected (stylized as ⚠ Infected ⚠ in-game) is a limited-time gamemode that was introduced in the November 19, 2021 update and had a V2 release in the November 11, 2022 update, adding the Noxious Sledgehammer. In the March 22, 2024 update, Infection received another rework adding different forms. It features 2 teams that can win; Humans and Infected. The humans must survive against the oncoming infected that become more dangerous overtime. Infection received another rework but was removed just one update later mainly due to a myriad of glitches and exploits.

Overview[]

Infected V4 (Current)[]

When the match starts, all players spawn near the center of the map. Several Item Shops and Emerald Generators are placed across the map. At 20 seconds, 5 random players become a random variant of infected.

Several respawn points for Infected exist throughout the map, and the Infected can swap classes by going near one. There are 4 classes available: Prowler, Disrupter, Rush and Tank. The Prowler is able to climb walls and "mark" enemies, making them visible through walls. The Disruptor is able to disrupt Emerald Generators, causing them to stop producing resources until a human repairs it. The Rusher gains increased movement speed, can pounce, and uses daggers instead of swords to attack. The Tank has increased health. All Infected are able to double jump, and spawn with a wooden sword (except Rush, which spawns with a dagger), stone pickaxe, diamond axe and 48 wool. Additionally, as the match progresses, the Infected can upgrade themselves, to increase health, upgrade pickaxe and melee weapon, and for Tank, gain a Noxious Sledgehammer. Attacking humans, disrupting generators, and humans dying while Marked will speed up the upgrade process.

Throughout the match, crates spawn across the map, which grant resources to humans when broken by a melee weapon. At 5 minutes, all humans are revealed, meaning they are marked by a red outline for a few seconds and visible through walls. Humans are revealed periodically after, with the revealing increasing in frequency as the match progresses. The humans must survive for 10 minutes to win, otherwise the Infected will win.

Infected V3[]

When the match starts, all players are transported to their base with a faster iron generator (similar to 30v30) and all of the resources go directly into their inventory. After 20 seconds, five random players are transformed into the infected team with a random variant. The humans can purchase repair kits in the shop and throw it at broken parts of the map to slowly repair it. Spike traps are also available to purchase which will damage the infected and slow them down. However, telepearls cannot be bought from the Item Shop.

Infected players can simply select their infected variant by going near the spawn area. They can pick one out of three: Rush, Disruptor and Tank. The Rush moves faster, can pounce, and instead of a sword has a dagger to rush down humans, but they also have less health(75 Health). The Disruptor can shut down generators across the map, and their ability can apply Sticky in an area of effect. The Tank gets the noxious sledgehammer, just like the old Super Infected, and they also have a higher health pool, but the sledgehammer also replaces the diamond pickaxe. All of the variants can double jump. Each infected has their own upgrade path that improves their weapon tier and base health, and upgrades from one variant won't carry over to another variant. Any infected killed will respawn at the opposite side of the map with no generators, as they are unable to pick up any item. Players from the human team that died will respawn as a random infected variant. Infected players spawn with a wooden sword/wooden dagger (depending on variant), 48 wool, and a diamond pickaxe. The infected will grow stronger with more health when they die (they will receive more health the longer they survive as an infected). Humans must survive for 12 minutes to win the mode, and the infected will win when all humans have been killed and converted.

but in V3, they get more health by upgrades, which is similar to barbarian . Humans can collect iron no matter where they go.

Infected V2[]

When the match starts, all players are transported to their base with a faster iron generator (similar to 30v30) and all of the resources go directly into their inventory. After 6 seconds, five random players are transformed into the "Super Infected" which has access to the noxious sledgehammer, a weapon capable of destroying map blocks and decimating multiple enemies with powerful knockback and poison damage. The humans can purchase repair kits in the shop and throw it at broken parts of the map to slowly repair it. Spike traps are also available to purchase which will damage the infected and slow them down. However, telepearls cannot be bought from the Item Shop.

Any infected killed will respawn at the opposite side of the map with no generators, as they are unable to pick up any item. Players from the human team that died will respawn as a normal infected. Infected players spawn with a stone sword, 48 wool, an Iron axe, and iron pickaxe. If a super infected leaves the game, a new one will be randomly chosen. The infected will grow stronger with more health when they die (they will receive more health the longer they survive as an infected) and gain access to telepearls at 5 minutes of the match. Humans must survive for 12 minutes to win the mode, and the infected will win when all humans have been killed and converted.

Infection[]

When the match starts, all players are transported to their base with a faster iron generator (similar to 30v30). After 6 seconds, five random players are transformed into the Infected. Spike traps are available to purchase which will damage the infected and slow them down. Telepearls and Balloons can be bought from the Item Shop in this version.

Any infected killed will respawn at the opposite side of the map with no generators, as they are unable to pick up any item. Players from the human team that died will respawn as an infected player. Infected players spawn with a stone sword, 48 wool, an Iron axe, and iron pickaxe. The infected will grow stronger with more health when they die (they will receive more health the longer they survive as an infected) and gain access to telepearls at 5 minutes of the match. Humans must survive for 12 minutes to win the mode, and the infected will win when all humans have been killed and converted.

Strategy[]

With the current version of the Infection gamemode, this mode will test whether you are able to help sustain you and your team as well as play your part on whatever side you're on. Without playing for the team, it can get very easy to accidentally empower the other team or have no progression to boost you at all. This can apply both ways, where humans can have no upgrades at all due to nobody going for diamonds and boosting the infected team with defenseless survivors getting picked off. On the other hand, the infected can quickly be eliminated to prevent upgrade paths and get targeted by priority survivors, namely fighter kits that can begin to steamroll the entire infected team should they not coordinate to stop their power creep. Whatever it is, you need to do your part but also play as a team in order to win. Stay in groups to defend you and your teammates as survivors, and attack in swarms as the infected to increase the chance of getting kills.

As the Humans/Survivors[]

You're very vulnerable in the early game should you try to head out without proper gear. You should at least pick up a better weapon or some armor before going out, and It's always safer to stick with teammates. Your main three reasons to go out would be to collect diamonds, to prevent the enemies from advancing too close to base, and to collect kills due to circumstances regarding certain kits. Getting the diamond economy is the top priority because a lack of upgrades will cripple your survival chances greatly. Because of this, getting Diamond Generator upgrade will help immensely. Once you do have an economy set up, the next step is to improve the base defense with spike traps, defenders, and having everyone stay near or within the base. Stay vigilant and try to scare off or kill any infected enemies that get close, and don't let them catch anybody vulnerable. You'll be basing for the rest of the match once everything is set up properly, but always stay on guard until the match ends.

Besides the standard defensive strategy mentioned above, easily the most commonly accepted strategy amongst the survivors are to get strong enough to the point they can sweep the Infected team. Best case scenario, your team starts to spawnkill at the Infected spawn. This is either done through a strong economy allowing for powerful weaponry, or by getting the kill dependent kits to boost their performance to win the game for the Survivors. Help with purchasing the upgrades, and make sure the kill dependent kits such as Barbarian or Lucía don't die early on to allow for an easy victory.

Tips for Survivors[]

  • The best enchant for this gamemode is Lifesteal, as its sheer healing power can outheal the damage that you may take. Of course, you're not completely invulnerable and are still susceptible to burst damage and void kills, so getting strong armor and staying away from the void will help.
  • One tip that you should put in practice is to never expect your teammates to collect diamonds for you. You're all expecting each other to do something without being told, but this can cause nothing to be done at all, so better you do it yourself to prevent your team's demise. This doesn't mean your team doesn't want to help the survivors win, they just might prefer killing enemies than making themselves exposed for the sake of getting upgrades.
  • If the Infected team is smart, they'll try to knock your teammates into the void for an easy kill. They'll also go for teammates who might have weaker armor. Always watch for the enemies to see if they're planning an ambush on you or your teammates.

Recommended Kits[]

The currently best strategy is to have a person on the team play a kit that can quickly boost themselves through kills. However, not all kill reliant kits are good in this mode, and only a select few can make the most of the constant killing.

  • Barbarian - Easily the most kill hungry kit in this mode due to his Rageblade, a Barbarian with strong armor, lifesteal, and damage upgrades will completely wipe the enemy team. He's not going to collect diamonds, nor will he spend time improving the base defense. Instead, he'll be in the middle of the map gaining kills with other teammates. If you can, support him through heals, buffs, or maybe thin out the enemy hordes if they get a bit too much for the guy. A top choice for this gamemode if played right.
  • Lucía - Compared to the rage filled man whose only role is to get his Rageblade and hopefully carry the team, Lucía does a much better job at supporting the team while also being a strong carry herself. It's very easy to rack up 400 candy to immediately receive a guaranteed 12 diamonds and 16 emeralds, enough resources to get decent upgrades while also buying better gear to make candy collection easier. Collecting 400 candy over and over only gets exponentially easier with each boost in gear and team upgrades. She can support the team's goals while being self-sufficient, making her an amazing if not the best kit to have on the team.
  • Grim Reaper - A very annoying kit who can stay on the battlefield for a long time, Grim Reaper is able to make use of their ability to its fullest when the team is on a massacre. Thanks to plenty of invincibility & healing because of the many kills that'll constantly happen, It's easy for them to stay alive and play an offensive or defensive role so they can hit and run or retreat to safety. This kit is a great choice for those who like to be in the midst of battle while not being battered by an entire swarm.
  • Sheila - Think of Sheila as a mix of Barbarian and Grim Reaper. She's able to deal extra damage to kill enemies quicker, but she's also able to heal her and her teammates should the need arise. She's better at healing than damaging in this mode as the swords will suffice, but the extra damage is nice to have. She'll take a bit longer to upgrade than Barbarian, so try to help her out if you can.
  • Crypt - It's very easy for Crypt to earn skeletons if he lets his teammates do the killing for them. With his army of skeletons, he'll be able to support teammates by launching skeletons towards them to help fight off infected enemies or to act as meatshields. They're even tougher to deal with in greater numbers as they'll swarm the enemies, all the while Crypt keeps adding to his skeleton army.
  • Eldric - His support can be invaluable when it comes to boosting others to their fullest potential, namely Barbarian. He doesn't have to attack enemies with his staff, instead he can let his teammates do the killing for him. This creates a mutual relationship where Eldric can boost the fighters on his team while they help him earn stacks. With his potent healing and ability to defend himself at higher stacks, he'll be very hard to deal with should he or another teammate be utilizing the Warlock Staff's powers.
  • Trinity - The powerful healing that Trinity provides can go either way. She can greatly heal everyone around her and increase everyone's survivability, or she can instead give herself what's essentially Lifesteal and keep herself alive. Whether she decides to play for the team or for herself, she has access to amazing heal potential due to the fact her attacks have built in lifesteal that's strong, and can be even stronger when stacking with the real deal or when supporting the team as the light angel for great effects.

All other class types tend to do a bad job in this gamemode because of problems related to their playstyle not matching the optimal strategy. However, the class type that dominates this gamemode are the fighter kits. Regarding the fighter kits and other kill dependent kits in the roster, they can to some extent be just as viable as the kits mentioned above. Unfortunately, some of them might have flaws that can make them suboptimal picks. Whether they're way too slow to upgrade, need too many kills to be equally valuable to kits mentioned above, are kill hungry for the wrong reasons, or just don't fare well with the fast paced nature of the mode, some kits don't perform so well in contrast to others.

As the Infected[]

You need to eliminate as many survivors as possible early on to make sure victory is still attainable. Without enough people to help attack the survivors, It'll be near impossible to win the moment the humans reach a certain point of progression, with this point of progression usually being at max upgrades and strong gear paired with life steal. Aim for the people who get too deep into the map and the ones who are alone. These are the ones who won't be able to retreat to their teammates for safety, and killing them will be a quick boost to the Infected team's size. When you're fighting against a group of survivors, team up with fellow Infected teammates to rush them and hopefully take some of the survivors out. If you can, ambush the human base and aim for the people who have inferior or no gear at all, even more targets and teammates for the Infected.

In late game when the survivors are holding out at base, infiltration tactics will need to be used. Get Tanks to make holes in the base and have many paths leading towards the base from many different directions. If you know a defense is too strong to kill the survivors within, you should start breaking the defenses such as player built walls or Spike Traps so other teammates can rush in more quickly without interruption. Attacking from above is a great way to get free hits in, and It's also safer than trying to use the main entrance which might be heavily defended. Rush into the base with a team, and focus onto a single target if possible. Don't stop the infiltration tactics, and don't allow the survivors to recover from previous attacks.

Tips for Infected[]

  • An easy way to kill survivors is to knock them off of bridges. This is done by jumping to the side of the survivor and hitting them perpendicular to the bridge. You'll most likely die from this maneuver, but It's a fast method to take out people.
  • Hitting survivors into the void via a sneak attack works wonders as well. Attacking from above and pushing a survivor off of the edge of the platform they're on can be used if they're not on a bridge, and this works particularly well against high priority targets such as certain kill boosted kits.
  • Play relentless and commit to a person if they're low on health. Best case scenario, you can rush through the defenses they try to use to survive and kill them. Even if you don't get the kill, another Infected can finish the job for you.
  • If you really want to mess with the survivors, you can actually pick up the Spike Traps and place them yourself, converting them onto your side and damaging any humans that walk on them. This can really help as survivors instinctually run through them, resulting in them taking damage and getting a slowdown effect that just might be enough to take them out for good.

The Different Infected Variants[]

Each Infected serves a different purpose, and they all work better when they combine their abilities and strengths. It's unwise to switch from one infected variant to another in late game, as It'll be too late to get the upgrades necessary to make the new variant usable. It's much easier to commit to a variant that you choose in early game, filling its role to its best potential once you gets its respective upgrade.

  • Tank - The extra health is helpful in mid game where tanking an extra hit can allow you to kill an enemy. The noxious sledgehammer is a vital tool to have against the survivors. Able to create routes previously inaccessible or making certain paths take less time to go through, the hammer as a utility item is great to have. Additionally, the amount of knockback this thing does can allow for easy kills with the void, and It's especially useful when trying to kill annoying threats such as Rageblade wielding Barbarians or spawn killers that just won't leave your spawn alone.
  • Disruptor - With the ability to disrupt generators and make boosting the diamond economy harder, the Disruptor can throw a wrench in the survivor team's plans should they not be ready to deal with them. This is more effective when the survivors don't have an economy kit to make up for the problem, and anybody who goes out to fix the generators risks getting jumped to death. The ability to apply Sticky can slow down survivors to the point they can't run and have to stand their ground, and this is especially effective against movement kits or any other kit affected by Sticky.
  • Rush - The really aggressive one of the three, the Rush can swiftly kill survivors and chase anyone who is unfortunate enough to be within their vicinity. The combined double jump, pounce, and dagger dash allows for extreme rush down scenarios where survivors get jumped out nowhere, resulting in an easy kill. The Rush is amazing at targeting weak people and those who try to run, and they're great at finishing the job for other infected teammates who almost killed a particular survivor. They really shine in the early game where taking out the survivors quickly and ending the match fast is a viable option.

Eldertree[]

Eldertree is proven to have kept the health and even range of the sword against the infected. This means Eldertree is the ONLY kit that retains anything transferring from humans to infected (if the Eldertree does get a tree orb as infected). Use your health to absolutely shred anyone in your way, making sure to not die, as you will lose your health points and range of the sword if you die.

Whether or not kits for the Infected team are intentional or not doesn't matter to many at the end of the day. These kits can definitely help the Infected team should they be used, though dying intentionally to play as a kit wielding Infected can be bewildering. Either way, It's a playstyle that's worth trying as long as It's within the intended boundaries of the game.

Overall, this gamemode will see if you are able to work alone and as a team. You'll need to be able to get kills on your own, but you also have to know how to cooperate with your teammates to turn the tides of the match in your side's favor. Teamwork matters, so don't try to push your teammates aside or ditch them just because. Whatever you are doing, It's always better to do things as a team than as an individual person. In the end, the team that is able to overwhelm the other side first will win.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first gamemode to not have beds.
  • This is the first gamemode to have team names other than colors.
  • The infected characters are actually “kits”, as if infection is over, the zombie you chose shows up in the kit shop with an actual kit description. You can also rent it too.
    • Renting it does nothing.
  • Infected players can buy items from the shop. This can be done by going to either the 2 buildings inside with the Item Shop NPC inside, one being located nearby the player's spawn or one by the infected's spawn, or going to the human's spawn.
    • Some items cannot be purchased by infected, such as kit exclusive items.
    • Infected can no longer pick up resources
  • Initially, the infected side was granted 32 Wool upon spawning, although this was changed later to grant 48 Wool instead.
  • Infected cannot pick up resources(Iron, Diamonds and Emeralds).
  • Infected players can get more 2 HP from resetting constantly, taking damage, and getting kills.
  • Certain kit abilities persist upon infection. An example of this would be an infected having Axolotls because they had bought axolotls before being infected.
  • Infected will receive buffed damage when using Swords.
  • This gamemode and Custom Matches are the only gamemodes that will not increase one's total wins after a victory.
  • Infected players will sometimes make noises that resemble "Run!", "Moolah!" or "There's a hole".
  • Spawning in late in the new Infected mode due to lag or bad internet will automatically set you as Infected.
    • This was fixed in March 29, 2024.
  • When playing as Lucia and become a zombie without touching your piñata, you can break it for loot and purchase stuff in the item shop.
